Calibrating a format that has no specification
Kerf writes Hundegger BVX. There is no public spec for it, so we built one out of real production files.
All updatesBTLx has a published schema, and every file is validated against it before it leaves. Hundegger BVX does not, which leaves two options: guess, or measure.
Measuring won. The corpus is twelve real production files, 879 parts and roughly 9,100 machine operations, collected from workshops willing to hand over work that had already been cut correctly. Every release is checked against all of it.
This is the boring hard part, and it is exactly the kind of work worth going looking for. A format nobody wants to own cannot be copied in a weekend.
